An excellent ski school and family-friendly town in the 109km Ski Juwel area.
At a glance
One of the four church villages in the Wildschönau, with access to the Ski Juwel’s 109km of piste.
Fantastic for beginners, with central nursery slopes and miles of easy and intermediate runs to progress to.
Families will love the range of non-ski activities, like sleigh rides and snowshoe walks.
A traditional mountain town in the Wildschönau valley, Niederau has wide nursery slopes and the excellent 1st Wildschönau Ski School, making it perfect for both families and beginners. If you’re keen to rack up the miles, your lift pass also covers the Ski Juwel’s 109km of slopes, which you can reach by hopping on the free ski bus to neighbouring Auffach.
You’ll find a range of shops in the town, as well as a well-stocked supermarket, with a great deli counter – just right for grabbing lunch on the go. And there’s a mix of relaxed and lively bars around the gondola base station, where you can enjoy some après after a day on the slopes. Nightlife is a little more limited, but the Cave Bar is one of the most popular haunts, especially for karaoke..
If you fancy a break from skiing, why not give a horse-drawn sleigh ride a try? Families after a change of scenery should head over to nearby Wörgl for the excellent Wave Water Adventure World, home of the L2, the world’s first double looping water slide, and a modern luxury spa.
Niederau is almost custom-made for those learning to ski, and we send hundreds of newbies every year to this beginner-friendly resort. Almost all the slopes are for beginners and intermediates - a major plus - so once you feel confident moving on from the nursery area, which is located on the edge of the village, it's hard to take a wrong turn and go down a tough run.
There are plenty of challenging runs for the intermediate skier with long interesting pistes and pretty tree-lined skiing. Excellent for second/third timers who want to explore further afield with some excellent red runs at Auffach, connected by the free ski bus.
Better suited to beginner and intermediate skiers - Niederau can still offer the advanced skier some exciting off-piste skiing, and there are 4 decent black runs in the valley.
