The ever-popular town of Garda is set around a still, sparkling bay on Lake Garda’s eastern shore, dotted with age-old cypress trees.

The town's tree-lined promenade stretches along the water's edge for over a mile and is the centre of town life. Filled with gelaterias and cafés, it makes a pleasant stroll to the historic Punta San Vigilio villa, or along the water to Bardolino. Look closely and you might spot the peninsular of Sirmione on the lake’s southern shore.

The medieval town of Garda is made up of cobbled, pedestrianised streets that liven up at night, when the music and street entertainers start up. This is the best time for a waterfront stroll, as the locals come out to see and be seen on their traditional passeggiata, or early evening walk. Stop for a spritz or a beer at one of the lakefront bars as you go.

Excursions

Excursions from Garda bookable in resort include:

Original Lake Garda Tour**

See the best of Lake Garda all in one day. Wind past olive trees, cypresses and rare flowers, and visit picturesque lakeside villages along the way. Follow one of the most impressive roads in Europe – passing Roman, Scaligeri and Venetian monuments.

Verona Uncovered

Spend a day in Verona, the beautiful setting of Romeo and Juliet. The Roman amphitheatre is a good place to start – with a spot of people watching on Piazza Brà – then on to see the fascinating Scaligeri tombs.

Grand Dolomites Tour

The Dolomite Mountains in the southern Alps are home to some of Italy’s most spectacular views, dotted with traditional alpine villages, breathtaking passes and pretty, flower-strewn meadows. Pass through the Fiemme, Fassa and Gardena valleys and the Pordoi and Sella passes, with plenty of photo stops along the way.

Venice by day and night

Just like the classic Venice trip, but you'll leave the city a little later. Stay into the evening and you can enjoy this magical city as the sun sets over the lagoon. Explore the bridges and canals, stop to visit its beautiful palaces and take a romantic gondola trip, before watching Venice light up at nightfall. Also, explore the lagoon surrounding Venice during a Lagoon Tour.

Cosmopolitan Milan

Discover the cosmopolitan capital of the north, famous for its football, fashion and fabulous city sights. See the Castle Sforzesco, admire the gilded interiors of the La Scala opera house and visit the world’s largest Gothic cathedral, which has 3,400 hand-carved sculptures.
