Holiday Information

The weeks leading up to Christmas are among those in which the breath-taking Northern Lights are at their most visible inside the Arctic Circle. We have a series of Festive Lights short breaks running from late November to the end of the Christmas holidays, with special departures from regional airports across the UK – perfect for combining nature’s most extraordinary light show with the atmosphere of the festive period. On these tours, you’ll search for the Aurora Borealis by snowmobile (or ‘skidoo’) in the hope of a spectacular Northern Lights sighting.

Included Activities

Your three or four-night Festive Lights break begins with a flight from your chosen UK airport to Enontekio in Northern Finland. From there, you make the short transfer to the Arctic Star Hotel in Karesuando.

As well as three-or four-nights’ full board accommodation at the Arctic Star (including for those staying over Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, a special Christmas Dinner or New Year’s Eve Dinner) and loan of an all-in-one thermal suit and boots, your break includes all the activities detailed below. Your tour operator will organise the running order according to the local conditions while you’re there. They will also give you the chance to choose from their programme of optional excursions – including one of the highlights of our Arctic Spirit programmes – the chance to spend the night in an igloo!

Davvi Arctic Star

Situated on the outskirts of Swedish Karesuando, the Davvi Arctic Star is a traditional and friendly hotel offering superb views over both the majestic Muonio River and the Kaarevaara fell. Here, you are well placed to explore Karesuando on foot, dropping in at Sweden’s most northerly church, paying a visit to the local museum and regularly crossing the Finnish-Swedish border.

Whilst simple and comfortable, the hotel has undergone a programme of modernisation in recent years and has all the essentials you need for a good stay including an open plan bar and dining area. There are 27 rooms in total, each being unpretentious and cosy. The Lagom rooms are inspired by the Swedish concept of Lagom: everything perfectly balanced in moderation - not too much, and not too little. The hotel also offers Fika rooms, which are slightly larger and named after the Swedish social institution of fika: a relaxing break, usually over coffee.

Your stay will be on a full-board basis. Meals are taken at the hotels' on-site restaurant and drinks can be purchased from the adjacent bar. (Please note that like many places in Sweden, the Davvi Arctic Star is a 'cashless' hotel and only accepts payments by debit or credit card).

Lagom Rooms - Double (Small)
Sleeps 2
These value-for-money double rooms offer 13 square meters of space, with en suite facilities. Lagon rooms are inspired by the Swedish concept of 'lagom', everything in perfect balance - not too much, not too little. In short, these rooms, whilst compact, have everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Fika Rooms - Double / Twin (Standard)
Sleeps 2-3
These double and twin rooms offer a generous 15.8 square metres of space, with en-suite facilities. Split over two floors, these rooms are named after a Swedish everyday institiution: fika. Fika is a time to relax, usually with coffee and cake, and reflect. With the hotel located at the heart of True Lapland and surrounded by sprawling plains of Arctic tundra, we couldn't think of a better place to make time for fika.

Lagon Room - Twin (Annexe)
Sleeps 2 Description as for Fika Rooms - Double (Standard) however with twin beds.
