You’ll never forget watching the fabled and elusive Aurora Borealis shimmering in the star-studded Arctic sky. On these Arctic expedition tours, the guides will lead you on a trek through Arctic forests to a spectacular night time vantage point, where the setting for a possible encounter with nature’s most spectacular light show is second to none
Based in a cosy hotel on Scandinavia’s official Northern Lights Route, conditions for seeing the Aurora will be at their best because there is such little light pollution in the Arctic wilderness.
This short break in Lapland also includes a selection of exciting Arctic activities: ride snowmobiles along frozen rivers, reindeer sleighs through the snow-filled tundra, and mush your very own team of husky dogs. And, after a fun day in the snow, you can expect a warming welcome and sumptuous dinner at your cosy hotel or traditional log cabin of choice.
Your Northern Lights break begins with a flight to Enontekiö in Finland. From this airport, you make the 1 hour transfer to Karesuando a spectacular journey, travelling through the majestic forests and passing countless frozen lakes.
The highlight of your break will be the two occasions when you set off beneath an Arctic night sky in the hope of encountering the fabled northern lights.
Your itinerary includes all the activities detailed below. The running order will be organised according to the local conditions while you’re there. You will also have the chance to choose from a programme of optional excursions: perhaps spend a night in an igloo – a highlight of the Arctic Spirit programmes.
In addition to these exciting excursions Dr Stuart Clarke, award winning author and fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, will be giving a series of exclusive talks on the Aurora Borealis (selected dates only).

Davvi Arctic Star Hotel
Situated on the outskirts of Swedish Karesuando, the Davvi Arctic Star is a traditional and friendly hotel offering superb views over both the majestic Muonio River and the Kaarevaara fell. Here, you are well placed to explore Karesuando on foot, dropping in at Sweden’s most northerly church, paying a visit to the local museum and regularly crossing the Finnish-Swedish border.
Whilst simple and comfortable, the hotel has undergone a programme of modernisation in recent years and has all the essentials you need for a good stay including an open plan bar and dining area. There are 27 rooms in total, each being unpretentious and cosy. The Lagom rooms are inspired by the Swedish concept of Lagom: everything perfectly balanced in moderation - not too much, and not too little. The hotel also offers Fika rooms, which are slightly larger and named after the Swedish social institution of fika: a relaxing break, usually over coffee.
Your stay will be on a full-board basis. Meals are taken at the hotels' on-site restaurant and drinks can be purchased from the adjacent bar. (Please note that like many places in Sweden, the Davvi Arctic Star is a 'cashless' hotel and only accepts payments by debit or credit card).
Davvi Arctic Lodge (supplement payable)
The Davvi Arctic Lodge is a charming, simple hotel set on a quiet, secluded hillside in the border-village of Karesuando. The beautiful restaurant, its circular design inspired by the shape of a Sami reindeer corral, is the hotel’s centrepiece and from here you can enjoy panoramic views over the snow-covered hillside to Swedish Lapland located just across the border.
Deep in the heart of True Lapland, and located on the offical Northern Lights route, Karesuando offers once-in-life-time Arctic experiences without the crowds. For those looking to stay in the Swedish side of the village we also offer Northern Light stays at the Arctic Star hotel.
