Alpbach is a real walkers’ village with 900km of marked trails and a huge variety of terrain
including woodland, gorges, lakes and peaks across the Alpbach Seenland area of Alpbach, Reith, Brixlegg, Rattenberg, Kramsach and Kundl, as well as the interlinked Wildschönau valley. The village is surrounded by extensive walking paths, peaks and various mountain huts which can be accessed by foot. Try the woodland walk up to the Schatzberg (3 hrs), or a full day hike up to the Sagtaler Spitze for panoramic views
All lifts and buses across the Seenland region are FREE with the resort card. There are four lifts (Wiedersbergerhorn in Alpbach, Reiterkogel in Reith, Markbachjoch in Niederau and Schatzberg in Auffach), and the local buses open up a variety of marked point-to-point trails to local villages, gorges and lakes, where you can catch the bus back. The Reither Kogel is ideal for ramblers, with gentle paths and a viewing platform with impressive vistas.

Tourist office walks
An excellent programme of FREE guided walks is run Monday to Friday by the Alpbach Tourist Board with a choice of two walks per day, departing from various points in the area. Popular walks include half-day walks to the Tiefenbach gorge, the 5 Lakes Tour around Kramsach, and full day hikes up to Alpbach’s Gratlspitz. (Progamme is subject to change and availability).
Excursions - Bookable locally
Visit Mozart’s birthplace, the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the medieval Old Town and the famous Getreidegasse shopping street. An optional walking tour brings the history of this beautiful city to life.
Neuschwanstein and Oberammergau
Visit King Ludwig of Bavaria’s famous fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein used as the inspiration by Walt Disney for his Cinderella castle in his theme parks. Price includes entrance to the castle. On the way we stop to visit the historic Passion Play village of Oberammergau. Please note there are over 250 steps in the castle, so a good level of fitness is required for this excursion.
Marvel at the natural wonder of Europe’s highest waterfall set amidst the stunning Hohe Tauern National Park. Follow the path right next to the falls for fantastic photo opportunities. Small National Park fee may be payable locally.
Half a day
This excursion takes you via the Brenner Pass to the shores of Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. The northern end of the lake is narrow and dominated by dramatic cliffs. Enjoy the typical Italian atmosphere of Malcesine, which lies at the foot of the imposing Monte Baldo, the Botanical Garden of Europe. A cable car can take you to the top of the mountain (5900ft) in only a few minutes (not included) or take an optional boat trip on Lake Garda (not included) and enjoy the Mediterranean climate of this beautiful part of Italy.
