These three family-run villas are an oasis of calm yet just five minutes’ walk from the Lido and its promenade of cafés and restaurants. And a little further afield – half-an-hour on foot tops – is Funchal’s old town.
Step through the iron gate and you’re in a pretty garden with a small pool as its focal point. A conservatory with outside seating makes a tranquil spot for breakfast and afternoon tea, and there’s a little bar for drinks.
There’s a small, rectangular swimming pool snuggled in the garden. It comes with wicker sunloungers topped with comfy cushions. And there are lots of hideaway places in the garden for sunbathing as well.
FOOD & DRINK
There’s a conservatory and terraced patio for you to have breakfast, which is a mix of cooked and Continental dishes. It’s a good venue to return to for afternoon coffee and cake, too.
For eating out, there are restaurants around by the hotel itself, as well as lots of places along the promenade and in the old town.
Behind the breakfast room there’s a cosy bar that’s just right for a nightcap. It’s an honesty bar, so if nobody’s around to serve you, you can help yourself and leave a note with your room number.
