Step inside and you're greeted by a sleek, modern lobby. A mirrored reception desk shares floor space with smart white couches, potted palms and bright red pouffes. The restaurant has been given the boutique touch, too. Dressed in oranges and purples and accessorised with stripy high-backed chairs and contemporary uplighters, it's a seriously chic place to dine.

As for the food itself, there's plenty of choice. Try the main restaurant for big international buffets, the Mediterranean à la carte for local favourites with a modern twist, or the à la carte Italian for stone-baked margaritas or pepperonis made to order. There's a beach bar, too.

On the accommodation front, rooms are really spacious. They're decorated in shades of vanilla and sky-blue, and kitted out with soft orange lighting and beds dressed in crisp white cotton. Roomy balconies or terraces come as standard, too, as do extras like flatscreen satellite TVs and minibars.

Lastly, a word on location. Despite its away-from-it-all feel, this place is just a five-minute drive from Porto Santo's main town, Vila Baleira. Plus, there's a world-class 18-hole golf course about the same distance away. Designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros, it ranks as one of the top 100 courses in Europe.
