Holiday Information

Located 200km north of the Arctic Circle in the small village of Jukkasjärvi, this is one of the most incredible places to stay anywhere in the world. And, despite it having spawned several other examples in Scandinavia, and even one in Canada, this is the original!

A classic short break combining a one night stay in a freshly-built Ice Room and two nights’ warm accommodation with a choice of adventure activities including reindeer encounters, dog sled rides and an epic Northern Lights hunt by snowmobile.

ICEHOTEL
ICEHOTEL

ICEHOTEL is a true Scandinavian icon, a living work of art built anew each year using ice hewn from Swedish Lapland's remote Torne river. And, with each new iteration, its halls, corridors, rooms and suites are embellished with ever more fantastical themes and ever more impressive carvings. As such, it is fully expected the 2018/19 version will be the most spectacular yet.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Depart for ICEHOTEL

Fly to Kiruna via Stockholm and make your way to the ICEHOTEL (upgrade your transfer to a husky sled ride for a truly wintry arrival). On arrival you are handed thermal clothing and shown around the hotel. Grab a cocktail at the ICEBAR and a traditional Scandinavian feast at one of the hotel's three restaurants, keeping an occasional eye on the sky for Northern Lights apparitions before settling into your Arctic sleeping bag for a snug night in your very own private ice room.

Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi

Days 2-3 - ICEHOTEL**

After a wake-up cup of hot lingonberry juice, a morning sauna will chase away any lingering icicles, before a hearty breakfast to set yourself up for two days of outdoor adventures. Choose between dogsledding, encounters with reindeer and other wild animals of the region, a wilderness dinner, Northern Lights snowmobiling – or ask our specialists about a snap course in ice sculpture using traditional tools, a nighttime Northern Lights horseback ride, or a leisurely day of Nordic skiing in the Poikkijarvi Woods. For the next two nights, you’ll toast in the comforts of a warm and bright Scandinavian chalet.

Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi

Day 4 - Depart ICEHOTEL

After breakfast, transfer to Kiruna for your return flights via Stockholm.

Winter Opening of ICEHOTEL

This winter-opening break offers you the chance to see it all before anyone else. You’ll fly out to Kiruna on the 12th December, joining a small group of privileged guests for the official opening ceremony and a tour the rooms and suites created by some of the world’s most talented ice artists. It’s all followed by a party at the hotel’s ICEBAR. What’s more, during your stay you’ll enjoy a Making of the ICEHOTEL tour – a behind-the-scenes look at the hotel’s unique construction.

Itinerary - Winter Opening of ICEHOTEL

Departure 12th December

Days 1-2 » 12th–13th December – ICEHOTEL & optional excursions

Fly from the UK to Kiruna and transfer to the ICEHOTEL for the first of two nights in the hotel’s cosy warm accommodation. With two days free before the official opening, you’ll have ample time to experience some of ICEHOTEL’s winter excursions. And there’s much to choose from, with everything from snowmobiling and husky safaris to ice-carving classes, cross-country skiing trips and even wilderness survival adventures. Also included is a Making of the ICEHOTEL tour, taking you behind the scenes to find out more about the hotel’s annual construction.

Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi

Meals: Breakfast

Day 3 » 14th December – ICEHOTEL opening ceremony

After a final day of optional excursions, you’ll head down to the opening ceremony followed by a first look at the beautifully carved rooms, suites and spaces that make ICEHOTEL such a special place to stay. Then, head to the ICEBAR for an opening-night party, enjoying drinks served in glasses made of ice, of course. And, with luck, the whole evening might just be set against a backdrop of the Northern Lights, dancing in the night skies overhead. You’ll then spend your final night in an ice room, with Arctic sleeping bags and reindeer hides keeping you snug in temperatures of -5ºC.

Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi
