The nearest beaches to Thira are either the Red beach 8km away of Kamari's beach 10km away. Buses can be caught from the bus station on the main road to the beach and are usually hourly. If you feel like taking an excursion, tours of the volcano are available, just watch the midday heat as there is no shade on the volcano. At night you will find a good choice of bars and nightclubs. The main square, Plateia Theotokopoulou is where the younger crowd meet before going to their late night venues of choice.
