Sliema is one of Malta's most popular coastal resorts, located on the north east of the island, just north of the capital Valetta.
As with a lot of Maltese resorts, the town of Sliema has grown from a small fishing village into a thriving holiday destination. Many choose to holiday in Sliema because it is somewhat calmer and more refined than its busy neighbours.
Who is Sliema suitable for?
Malta is known for its rocky coastline and Sliema is no exception. If you're looking for a sandy beach holiday then this isn't the resort for you. But if you're looking for a sun drenched island getaway with fantastic scenery and a relaxed atmosphere then Sliema is a perfect pick.
A Sliema holiday has something to offer people of all ages and interests, though due to the beach restrictions it isn't always favoured by those with young children.
The best time to visit Sliema
Sliema holidays offer a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. Most flock to the resort during the main summer months of July to September for the high temperatures. The hottest time of the year is also the busiest and crowds reflect this. For a quieter break opt for the spring months of April and May where the weather is still extremely pleasant.
Eating out in Sliema
You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out on your Sliema holiday. Street vendors offer delicious fast food if you're in a rush or if you have more time then pick one of the resort's many excellent restaurants. All international palates are catered for including Chinese, French, Indian, Mexican, Turkish and even Russian.
If you want to sample local cuisine then visit one of the Maltese restaurants offering traditional delicacies and an abundance of freshly caught fish.
After eating head to the bars dotted along the harbour for a chance to relax with a drink whilst watching the sun go down over the sights of nearby Valletta.
