Lake Garda Holidays
Lake Garda is a popular resort in northern Italy that lies on the east side of Lake Garda itself. Garda is the largest of Italy's fresh water lakes and also considered the cleanest, with swimming encouraged, although the temperature isn't always favourable!
Lake Garda has evolved from a small fishing village into a bustling town full of historical architecture hidden down winding narrow streets that lead to traditional squares and numerous restaurants and shops.
The best time to visit Lake Garda
Sitting between the mountain peaks of Veneto and the Dolomites, Lake Garda experiences a cold winter with strong winds making it a less than ideal destination at this time.
Many pick the main summer months for the fantastic sunshine and the bustling atmosphere but be aware that it will be hot and often humid, and there will definitely be lots of fellow holidaymakers around.
The spring and autumn months are ideal for those looking for a quieter holiday, with less heat and less crowds. The beauty of a Lake Garda holiday is really at its best with clear skies and all flowers in bloom. It's also the perfect temperature for those wanting to spend time exploring the surrounding countryside on treks and walks.
Sightseeing in Lake Garda
Holidays to Lake Garda offer many beautiful attractions, spend the day exploring the town stopping at the Captain's Place, or the beatufiul Villa Albertini.
Further afield head one of two ways - up into the hillsides surrounding the lake or down the lake to neighbouring areas.
If you choose to go up you'll be rewarded with trails through vineyards and olive groves, horse-riding, rock climbing and fantastic panoramic scenery.
Heading along the lake, do as the locals do and catch a ferry - much faster, quieter and more relaxing than driving, to the town of Sirmione, a popular spot for tourists thanks to its Rocca Scaligiera castle.
