Florence Holidays

Florence Holidays Holidays

Florence is one of Italy's most well-known and loved cities. It is located along the Arno River, in Western Italy, in the middle of the country's Tuscany region.

Florence is famous for its great Florentines including Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo and its rich history dating back to the Renaissance.

A holiday to Florence is a holiday filled with ancient charm and modern conveniences. You'll find relaxing piazzas and fantastic churches hidden amongst bustling shops, restaurants and bars.

The best time to visit Florence

Florence lies within a valley, surrounded by the Senese Clavey Hills so its weather varies slightly to that of nearby cities in the Tuscany region.

The summer months of July and August are the hottest and the busiest. If you prefer cooler weather pick spring time, April and May or Autumn, September and October. During these months you'll experience pleasant warm, dry weather.

Sightseeing in Florence

Florence is seen as the birthplace of Renaissance and this is highlighted by the fantastic architecture around the city. Like its fellow Italian city Rome, Florence has an open-air museum feel, packed full of amazing free sights that can be seen during a wander through the city's streets.

A trip to see the sights of Florence must include: the Accademia Gallery and its copy of Michelangelo's 'David', Ponte Vecchio bridge - the oldest in Florence, Santa Croce - the largest Franciscan church in Italy and the Uffizi Gallery which houses Italy's most important art collection.

If after all that you're still feeling energetic then climb the 463 steps to the summit of Brunelleschi's Duomo for an amazing view across Florence.

Eating out in Florence

Florence holidays offer the best of Tuscan cuisine, simple but delicious dishes based around fresh and local ingredients. Sample traditional Florentine delicacies such as schiacciata a type of Tuscan flatbread and bistecca alla fiorentina, the Florentine T-bone steak.
