Cayo Guillermo is a small island of only 8 square miles situated off Cuba's north coast.

It is part of a 186-mile stretch of 400 islands that make up the King's Garden, or Jardines del Rey.

Access to Cayo Guillermo is via a bridge connected to Cayo Coco, a larger island which itself is connected to the mainland via a 16-mile causeway.

The Pilar Beach, at the western end of the island takes its name from the Pilar yacht, which belonged to Ernest Hemmingway. Here you'll also find the highest sand dunes in the Caribbean, reaching up to 16 metres.

The beach is bordered by an off shore coral reef, home to various marine life which you can get a closer look at by taking part in a day of scuba diving.
