The History of Cuba
Cuba was discovered in 1942 by Christopher Columbus. The countries first 7 cities were formed between the years of 1511 and 1515 with the Spanish Colonisation of the Island. These towns were: Havana, Baracoa, Bayamo, Santísima Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus, Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe (Camagüey) and Santiago de Cuba.
The Spanish rule lasted for four centuries until the military occupation by the United States commenced in 1898 (until 1902). Cuba has repeatedly fought for independence, the last of which was the revolution led by Fidel Castro in 1953 which led to the establishment of the current republic of Cuba (1959).
